The five blockers
- •The home broadband filter: Sky Shield, Web Safe, BT and TalkTalk controls. Tell tale sign: the site works on 4G and fails on Wi-Fi.
- •The mobile content lock: EE, O2, Vodafone, Three and the networks that run on them. Tell tale sign: the site fails on 4G and works on Wi-Fi.
- •A managed network, such as a school, a university, an office, a hotel or a train. Tell tale sign: it fails only in that building.
- •A court order. It fails on every UK network, and there is often a notice page. These are mostly piracy sites.
- •The site itself. It loads, and then tells you that it is not available in your region.
The proper fix for each
For the first two, sign in as the account holder and change the setting. It takes minutes and costs nothing. On a managed network you cannot change anything, so a tunnel is the practical answer, with the network's acceptable use policy kept in mind. For a regional refusal you need an exit in a country that the site accepts. Court ordered blocks are different again. Royal Key is not offered for piracy, and we will not help with those. Unblock website tricks such as changing DNS only work against the simplest filters.
Games and films
Two frequent searches are unblock website games and unblock movie website. Browser game portals get caught by category filters on school and office networks, and a tunnel on your own device opens them, subject to the rules of the place you are in. With films, a tunnel lets you reach a service you already pay for while you are abroad. It does not turn an unlicensed streaming site into a lawful one.
When a tunnel is the right tool

Before you go round anything
- ✓If you pay the bill, try the account setting first. It is the clean fix.
- ✓Never click through a certificate warning in order to reach a page.
- ✓Web proxies are for reading public pages only, and never for logging in.
- ✓A website unblock extension from an unknown publisher can read everything you open.
- ✓A school or an employer can enforce its own rules whatever tool you happen to use.

Why is a perfectly normal site blocked in the UK?
Usually a family filter or a mobile content lock has caught it by category.
What is the quickest proper fix?
If you are the account holder, switch the filter off in your account.
What about school or office Wi-Fi?
You cannot change their filter. A tunnel on your own device works, and their policy still applies to you.
Can a VPN open sites blocked by court order?
Technically any tunnel can. We do not offer the service for piracy.
Does changing DNS help?
Only with the simplest blocks.
Will the network see what I opened?
No. It sees an encrypted connection to a server.
