What you are actually adding

Nearly every VPN browser plugin Chrome users find in the Web Store is an encrypted proxy for that one browser. Chrome's traffic goes to the publisher's server, and everything else on the computer carries on as before. To do its job, the plugin asks for permission to read and change your data on all websites. That is not a trick. It is how a proxy extension has to work. It does mean that the publisher is in a position to see every page you open and every form you complete.

DNS and WebRTC only if the plugin deals with them. Many do not.
Other browsers, email apps, games and system updates are not covered.

Vetting a Chrome plugin for VPN use

✓Who publishes it? Look for a company with a name, an address and a business that it could lose.
✓Does the same firm make a full VPN application? Those firms have a reputation to protect.
✓When was it last updated, and has the owner changed recently?
✓Does the privacy policy say what happens to browsing data?
✓Remove the plugins you are not using. They keep their access for as long as they stay installed.

A cleaner arrangement

Chrome follows the proxy settings of the operating system. So a desktop client running in system proxy mode covers Chrome without any plugin at all, and nothing gains the right to read your pages. Switch the same client to TUN mode and the rest of the computer is covered as well. A Royal Key cannot run inside a plugin anyway, because extensions have no means of speaking VLESS. That is why we point people to the client.
