A pre-holiday checklist
- ✓Install the client and import the key at home, where everything is reachable.
- ✓Test your bank app and one catch-up service through the London exit.
- ✓Save the key offline, as a screenshot of the QR code and as text.
- ✓Note which location is nearest to your destination. Madrid serves Spain and Portugal, and Amsterdam serves much of the continent.
- ✓Check the rules of the country you are visiting. A few restrict VPNs.
Sport and games, honestly
Live sport is licensed country by country. A tunnel can return you to the UK service that you already pay for. It does not turn a pirate stream into a legal one, and we do not help with those. Games are a mixed case. A tunnel opens a game on a network that blocks it and hides your home address from strangers. It does not lower ping, because an extra hop never does, and it does not excuse anyone from a game's own rules.

Why set it up before I leave?

Which location should I use abroad?
A UK one when a British service needs to see you at home, and the nearest one otherwise.
Is hotel Wi-Fi really a risk?
It is a network run by people you do not know. A tunnel removes the question.
Will my banking app work?
Usually, through a UK exit. If it objects, exclude it from the tunnel.
Is a VPN legal everywhere?
No. A few countries restrict them. Check before you travel.
